Materials: Procedures:

Before students arrive, write the names and order of today’s presenters on the board and set-up the digital video camera to record student lesson presentations. Assign one student to run the digital camera, one to keep time, and one to collect evaluation forms. Have all student presenters for today’s lesson prepare the teacher machine with any technology or files they will need to demonstrate their lessons.

Opening
(5 minutes)
  • Announce daily outline and objectives.
  • e-Portfolio question and answer period.
Lecture: Digital Divide (15 minutes) — see lecture slides; hear audio

Define the “digital divide” and identify student groups most affected by this discrepancy.

Discuss the social ramifications of the digital divide and have students brainstorm methods of increasing resource availability to students without technological access.

Lesson Plan II Presentations
(40 minutes)

Have any remaining students complete their lesson plan II presentations. As with the previous weeks, allow all students the opportunity to comment on the presentations and lessons in writing and give these responses to the presenter in a sealed envelope.

Demonstration: Web Development Features (15 minutes)

Demonstrate altering graphics into JPG format (see video).

Closing (5 minutes)
  • Review daily outline and objectives.
  • Remind students to continue working on their e-portfolios and to seek assistance as needed.
  • Hand out Technology Journey II and tell students to not begin the assignment until they complete their e-portfolios.
  • Hand out Video Storyboards and tell students to be prepared for digital video taping next session.
Independent work on e-portfolio homepages if time permits.

Absence Requirements
  1. Review the lesson plan, and lecture slides, and lecture audio.
  2. Define "digital divide" and list five ways you intend to address the digital divide in your future classroom.
  3. Procure videos of three lesson presentations from NetStorage that were delivered on this day in class. Prepare a list of strengths and areas of improvement for each presenter. Email the classmate your reactions and print a copy of the email to turn in to the instructor.
  4. Review the video for altering graphics into JPG format. Find a graphic in Microsoft Word's clipart library, transfer it into JPG format and email it to your instructor.
