Plan to meet with a class of fifth grade students to complete this lesson. Place names of polygons around the classroom above ten different Apple computers with iPhoto. Have all students write their names on a nametag and stick it on their shirts. Sponge Activity: Separating Students (5 minutes) Provide each student
with a shape card and instruct them to find those in the classroom with
the same polygon (getting them into groups of
four to six). Have all groups members introduce themselves to one
another and stand by the computer listing their shape name.
Opening (5 minutes)
Introduce students
to basic use of digital cameras and downloading pictures. Explain the
rules of the upcoming game.
Have each group
download their pictures to a Macintosh computer
and create a slideshow using iPhoto. Time permitting, they should add
special effects including music, transitions, and titles. Groups
must
be ready to demonstrate their slideshow in exactly 15 minutes. Start
the timer.
When students are finished downloading the pictures to their iPhoto library, take their cameras and download all pictures to a single machine. From this machine, burn a CD for the instructors of both the elementary and university classes. Student Spotlight (15 minutes) Have students
view each group’s slideshow by having each group bring their computer
to the front of the room and attaching it to the projector. Encourage
groups to describe their photos and encourage the remaining class
members to laugh and clap appropriately.
