Lesson Plans This section links to several
lesson plans from "Survey of Computers in Schools." Related materials
for each plan appear as links in the "Needed Materials" sections of
individual plans.
Lesson Plan, Week 1 This lesson represents the first class meeting. The lesson topic is "What is technology and how is it used in schools?" and the primary technology tools of focus are KidPix and word processing. Following this lesson, students are required to write a paper detailing their personal technology journey. The following week, students peer edit the papers using technology tools that complement the writing process and re-write final drafts for submission. Lesson Plan, Week 5 This lesson is titled: "What do we need to know before going online?" The previous weeks' reading and tutorial assignments covered ethics, copyright, fair use, and characteristics of the "millennials." Students also completed an online survey enabling them to express their opinions about the quality of this course to date. The lesson begins with a review and discussion of those survey results. It follows with a demonstration of technology drawing tools. Next is a scavenger hunt using digital cameras (some of these pictures appear in the "Student Evaluations" testimonial video) that culminates in the creation and display of student-made slideshows. The lesson ends with students participation in a group assessment that uses a Bloom constructed test to ensure they understood major concepts from their readings. Lesson Plan, Week 8 The focus of this lesson is "How can students use technology to learn independently?" In preparation for this lesson, students developed a first draft of a technology-rich lesson plan. During this lesson, they will work in groups to brainstorm ways to improve individual lesson plans. The primary technologies used in this lesson are Inspiration (as it relates to learning strategies) and digital books. Lesson Plan, Week 13 This lesson covers topics including the digital divide and assistive technologies. Methods used to teach these topics include case study group work, lecture, and video. The end of the class period is dedicated to student presentations of their technology-rich lesson plans. |
